NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship- Raleigh Regional comes to the RBC Center

RALEIGH, N.C. – N.C State University will host the 2009 NCAA  Division I Women’s Basketball Championship - Raleigh Regional, March 28 and 30 at the RBC Center. The event will feature four teams in the Sweet Sixteen playing for the right to advance to the 2009 Final Four in St. Louis. (By NCAA rule, NC State cannot play at the RBC Center in this event.).

This will be NC State’s second time hosting an NCAA Women’s Regional at the RBC Center. The Wolfpack also served as first-and-second-round hosts at Reynolds Coliseum in 2003 and at the RBC Center in 2006.

“Reaching the Final Four is the pinnacle of both men’s and women’s basketball,” said NC State athletics director Lee Fowler said. “Anytime you have a chance to crown a champion that will advance to that point in the season, it’s a special event.

“We are proud to play a role in determining a Final Four team, by hosting the regional at the RBC Center. It’s another showcase event in our commitment to hosting championships here in Raleigh.”
